We originally named our high-quality steel locking mailbox after the Abrams tank because our mailboxes are truly “built like a tank!” However, most people aren’t familiar with that military vehicle, so we wanted a name that instantly communicates strength and protection.
That’s how The Bunker was born. Just as soldiers relied on bunkers in battle for safety and security, this durable mailbox that locks is designed to give you peace of mind and security. Rugged, resilient, and ready for anything—it’s built to protect your mail like it’s under heavy guard.
How It Works
We designed our secure residential mailboxes to be simple to install, and even simpler for both you and your mail carrier to use:
- The mail carrier inserts incoming mail into the slot at the top (10” W x 1.75” H).
- Mail drops into the high-security, always-locked compartment.
- Only you have the key—your mail waits safely inside until you retrieve it via the locking mechanism.
The Bunker has four pre-drilled holes on the bottom designed to fit our Bunker Posts, which are perfect for curbside mailbox installations. You can also install this steel mailbox on wood, metal, or masonry surfaces with the appropriate mounting hardware.
Outgoing Mail (Optional)
Our Bunker mailboxes are intended for incoming mail security; however, you have the option of expanding your mailbox’s capabilities for curbside pickups as well:
- This is a heavy-duty “Limited Service” mailbox, designed for incoming mail only.
- An outgoing mail option is available and adds a 1/8" flag and slot beneath the incoming slot.
- Holds 1–4 outgoing envelopes.
- Outgoing mail is not lockable and must stick out approximately 1 inch for carrier pickup.
- No concealment door like our larger models.

Shipping and Lead Time
All Fort Knox Mailboxes are built in the USA and ship directly from our facility in Grants Pass, Oregon. Each mailbox with lock is fabricated for maximum quality and securely packaged to handle the stress of transit.
We strive to get your shipment to you as quickly as possible. Estimated shipping times depend on the model, stock availability, and order size.
Production Time
- In stock: The Bunker Mailbox ships the same or next business day.
- Not in stock: Production may take up to 10 business days.
- Multiple units: Contact us for current lead times.
Transit Time
- FedEx or UPS Ground: Typically, 2–6 business days, depending on location.
- Freight: 1–10 business days for oversized or multi-unit shipments (quote required).
Shipping Carrier
- FedEx or UPS Ground for approximately 1–6 Bunker mailboxes without steel racks.
- Freight for 7+ units or orders including racks (often more cost-effective for larger quantities).
Tracking
Tracking information is automatically emailed as soon as your order leaves our facility in Oregon.
